The children will learn about the bald eagle in depth, its escape from near extinction in the U.S., and they will find resources on the internet where they can actually watch nesting eagles raise their chicks live on the internet.  This isn't software, it's guided topics for children to begin their own search for information.  We don't give answers, we give direction.

EagleQuest will provide months of activities for children and can be used in the classroom, library, afterschool programs, at home or in mentoring situations.  By learning about America's symbol, a once-endangered species that escaped extinction, we hope children will commit to the future of all species.

A quote by Albert Einstein gives the philosophy of the  product:
"I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn."

Assignments send children on a treasure hunt for information in books and on the internet.  They can work with a friend or parent or they can work alone.  A feather is earned for each completed assignment, several feathers lead to award levels ("Egg", "Hatchling", "Chick", etc.). Children will learn about the bald eagle in depth, its escape from near extinction in the U.S. and they will find resources on the internet to actually watch nesting eagles raise their chicks live via "eaglecams" online.  This isn't software, it's guided topics for children to begin their own search for information.

"Gr 4-6 -  EagleQuest  is a standards-based science inquiry program.  It is a PDF file of guided topics for children to begin their own search for information.  Students research various aspects of the bald eagle.    Each research project has five activities.  Once  students complete them, they earn an award certificate.  There are six levels of awards, beginning with "Hatchling", progressing through "Chick", "Nestling", "Fledgling", "Predator" and ending with "Raptor".    Internet sites are provided to assist with research, including live "EagleCams" for online viewing during nesting season.  Students can also use print resources, including the book by Mac Priebe that accompanies the CD-ROM.  Users can work at their own pace, and learn about the bald eagle, and their own role in protecting animals.  Elementary teachers will enjoy this inquiry-based program.  It will provide months of activities for children and can be used in the classroom, library, afterschool programs, at home just for fun.  -- Anita Paque, Templeton Middle School, Sussex, WI
